Terms of use
Short version: everything here is free to read, an identification is never a valuation, and no page on this site will ask you for money or card details. The rest of this page fills in the edges of those three sentences.
Identification is not appraisal
These guides and the app name what a stone probably is and how to check it. They do not certify species, grade quality or state value. Anything bought, sold, insured or inherited on the strength of a name needs the professional document for that claim — a gemological report for gems, an assay for ore — and the pages about valuable rocks say so at every turn where money enters.
Field checks carry field responsibilities. Hardness and streak tests can mark or chip a specimen; collecting is regulated — quantity limits on Michigan state land, outright prohibition in national parks — and land access is the landowner’s call, not ours. Nothing here is legal advice; the authority is your local regulator.
Accuracy and changes
The site is provided as it is, without warranty. Physical properties are cited from named sources with dates; identification from photographs is probabilistic by nature and can be wrong. Figures carry the date they were checked precisely because they go out of date, and pages may be updated or withdrawn. Gleamite is not liable for losses arising from decisions made on the basis of a guide or an app result — the section above explains why that limit is real rather than boilerplate.
Third-party apps are named where naming them is useful. Claims about them are their own store pages’ statements, read on the date shown. No relationship, sponsorship or affiliation is implied, and none exists.
Using what you read here
Quote it, link it, print the charts and take them to the beach. What we ask is that quotations keep the date attached to any figure, since a number without its date is the exact failure these pages exist to avoid. Republishing whole pages as your own is a different matter and is not permitted.
The app has its own terms shown in the stores at install. Questions about this site go to [email protected].
