Petrified wood is a contradiction you can hold: tree anatomy — grain lines, growth rings, knots, even bark texture — in a stone that scratches glass and weighs three times what wood should. Confirm both halves: the wood structure proves what it was, and the quartz behavior proves what it has become.

The two-natures test
